🥔 Ingredients
To make frozen samosas in the air fryer, you'll need:
- Frozen samosas (any flavor and as many as desired)
- Cooking spray or oil for brushing (optional)
- Dipping sauces (such as mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or yogurt dip) for serving
📖 Instructions
Place the frozen samosas in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are in a single layer and not touching each other. If desired, lightly coat the samosas with cooking spray or brush them with oil for a golden and crispier crust.
Cook the samosas in the air fryer for 8 - 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through to ensure even cooking.
Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of a samosa; it should come out hot and the crust should be golden brown.
Once done, carefully remove the samosas from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve the crispy samosas with your favorite dipping sauces and enjoy!
🥣 Best dipping sauces for samosas
- Mint Chutney: A classic and refreshing choice, mint chutney is made with fresh mint leaves, cilantro, green chili, garlic, ginger, lemon juice, and spices. It provides a vibrant and tangy flavor that pairs perfectly with samosas.
- Tamarind Chutney: Tamarind chutney offers a sweet and tangy taste with hints of tartness. Made from tamarind pulp, jaggery or sugar, and spices, it adds a delightful contrast to the savory samosas.
- Yogurt Dip: A cooling yogurt dip complements the spiciness of samosas. Simply whisk together plain yogurt, chopped fresh herbs like cilantro or mint, minced garlic, a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of salt to create a creamy and refreshing dip.
🙋🏻♂️ FAQs
Cook the frozen samosas for 8 - 10 minutes in a preheated air fryer at 375°F (190°C), flipping them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.
Air-frying can reduce the amount of oil used and result in a lighter version of samosas, but it's still essential to consider the ingredients and portion sizes to make a healthier choice.
Set a timer for halfway through the cooking time and manually flip the samosas at that point.
Preheating is recommended for even cooking and optimal results.
⏲ Equipment
Air Fryer: This recipe has been tested using two air fryer models:
- Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart Air Fryer Oven. This air fryer has a useful viewing window that allows you to monitor the food as it cooks. This model always cooks food a bit quicker than my Cosori model so reduce the cooking time as needed.
- Cosori Max XL Large Cooker. It has a capacity of 5.8 quarts which is quite large.
You can use any air fryer for this recipe, but all air fryers are different so adjust cooking times accordingly.
Air fryer temperatures vary between air fryer models so I use an oven thermometer to make sure that the air fryer is the correct temperature for each recipe.
🍶 Storage and Reheating
Storage: Once cooled, store any leftover samosas in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheating: To reheat refrigerated samosas, preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and air fry them for 3-5 minutes until heated thoroughly. This will help restore their crispiness.
👨🏻🍳 Top Tips!
- For an extra crispy crust, coat the samosas generously with oil before air frying.
- Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket, to ensure even cooking.
- Flip the samosas halfway through the cooking process to ensure both sides are evenly browned.
- Experiment with different dipping sauces to enhance the flavor of your samosas.
- To prevent the samosas from drying out, store any leftover samosas in an airtight container once they have cooled down.
